Fire Wave by Ana Stanojevic Review

Fire Wave by Ana Stanojevic review, book, novella

Title: Fire Wave

Series: Fire Wave #1

Author: Ana Stanojevic

Publisher: Kobo

Pages: 143 pages

Release Date: 1 March 2021

Fast paced and action packed with a crime fighting protagonist … and even aliens!!

I‘m not usually a huge fan of Superhero style books (don’t get me wrong I love a superhero movie now and again) but, I liked the sound of Fire Wave’s premise so knew I had to give this a read.

Summary

Aiyana never expected that her life would change drastically.

After having a near-death experience and the company she works for being attacked, Aiyana, an employee of Ihode Labs, is shocked to wonder who would attack the work place and for what purpose. She found out that some classified chemicals had been stolen from Ihode Labs but despite the warning from the Head of the Company, Aiyana pursues her curiosity even further.

She soon learns that there is an evil brewing, nestled somewhere in Earth. Wanting to stop the threat, Aiyana never expected to do something that would be out of her league.

Review

Firstly, this is an incredibly quick and super fast paced read, which I did enjoy however it did get a-little confusing at times (due to the speed of the plot, which happens crazy fast.)

I did really like the homage to classic superhero comics and iconic superhero movies such as Aiyana making her own costume which I found joyfully reminiscent of Michelle Pfieffer’s Cat Woman in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns.

I also really liked Aiyana (our secret vigilante and protagonist) who’s constantly seeking for the truth. I also liked that she had quite a few humourous, self aware moments which I really enjoyed - one of my favourites was her picking out an inconspicuous disguise (involving a twirling baton and old Halloween mask and an old cape) then taking public transport (which caused of attention.) There were few other great scenes but I don’t want to give away too much but her her initial naïveté is rather endearing.

We also briefly meet one of her friends, Abby and a few of her colleagues but, due to Aiyana’s singleminded focus on the mystery woman and the conundrum that is The Obsidian Force, we don’t delve all that much into Aiyana’s private life or backstory all that much. Hopefully, the sequels (as this is a planned trilogy) will remedy this.

Overall, this is a quick, entertaining and action packed superhero, sci-fi fantasy debut that’s perfect for superhero enthusiasts.

Also I want to give a huge thank you to the author, Ana Stanojevic for providing me with a digital copy for review purposes.
