Hello fellow booklovers! Today I’m sharing my review for Jilted, the yet beautifully heartfelt new Rom-Com from Vi Keeland.

Synopsis

Weddings. I spend every working minute talking and writing about them, when just the thought of one makes me want to scream. After my fiancé abandoned me at the altar last year, my dream job at Bride magazine has turned into a reoccurring nightmare.

To add insult to injury, the bridezilla at my latest assignment, somehow roped me into filling in for a missing bridesmaid. Of course, I had to get paired with the most gorgeous groomsman. Wilder Hayes is perfect-except when he opens his mouth and we end up bickering all evening. That is, until the coat closet incident.

At least I’ll never have to see him again. Or so I think… Until I walk into work on Monday and find out Wilder isn’t just a jerk, he’s also my boss’s son. And I’ll be spending the rest of the season working with him at every single wedding I cover this year.

It’s a match made in heaven . . . or hell. Only time will tell.

Review

Vi Keeland’s swoon-worthy, 27 Dresses-style Rom-Com about Bridal magazine journalist, Sloane (who’s all but given up on love since being jilted at the altar) and Wilder (the cocky, Rugby playing son of Sloane’s boss) was an absolute dream of a read that I pretty much devoured.

The prose was soo lighthearted with flirtatious banter and tons of steamy chemistry I couldn’t get enough of. But, the most impressive aspect of all, was Keeland’s skill at imbuing soo much depth and nuance into the narrative without loosing that addictively romantic edge.

Exploring the complexities of modern dating, relationships, trust and second chances. the dual POV really worked well in delving into Sloane and Wilder’s mindsets and I admit, made me love them even more!

Especially Sloane, who was such an engaging, relatable character that just needed a period of self care, emotional healing & reflection to really get to know herself (and what she’s looking for in a partner.)

Still trying to overcome her heartbreak (and trust issues) Sloane hides behind a sarcastically witty mask, whilst choosing to disengage from the idea of romance (for fear of being hurt again.)

Until Wilder barrels into her life at a wedding she’s working, and their instant connection (and rather swoon-worthy cloakroom encounter) send them both down a journey of love, healing and self acceptance that had me ugly crying by the end (though for happy reasons.)

Wilder’s portrayal was also really nuanced, and quite introspective for a character that projects soo much confidence. Exploring his grief, emotional repression and childhood shaped by loneliness; his fear of commitment starts to make sense. But his time with Sloane and his journey (in learning to let down his barriers and allow for the possibility of connection) made him all the more endearing to me.

I don’t want to spoil any of the good bits (TRUST ME there are some really amazing scenes.) So I’ll just say if you love funny, poignant (& slow burn) Rom-coms with two wonderfully compelling MCs (one of which is the sexy male MC who falls first.) Then you’re probably gonna really enjoy this!

Also, thanks to Piatkus/ Little Brown Book Goup UK for the finished copy.
